Who Am I?

I am a lot of things to a lot of different people.

I am a child of God, a wife, a mom, and a teacher.

I was raised Lutheran and have been a Christian since my baptism exactly two weeks after I was born. That’s not to say that it’s been an easy journey. Faith is hard and the current relationship between politics and religion in the United States just makes it harder, something that I occasionally take the time to write about in this blog. Through life experience my faith has grown both richer and more complex, which I believe we should embrace instead of avoid.

I love my amazing husband more every day. He is my best friend, my partner, and my rock. The start of our relationship when we were teenagers may not have been the smoothest and most trouble-free, but after more than 20 years together, we are stronger together than we are apart.

My daughter and son teach me every day about unconditional love, patience, and myself. I spend much of my mental energy considering how I can do better by them, how I can better raise them to be the man and woman that I want them to be someday.

In addition to my jobs as wife and mom, I have been a high school English teacher for nearly 18 years. I truly believe that this is what I was called to do. Teaching is my vocation and my ministry and is as much a part of who I am as my roles of wife and mother.

Writing is where I recharge so that I can go back to my calling as wife, mother, and teacher. This blog gives me the chance to remember, reflect, and sometimes spout off when the ridiculousness of the outside world just gets to be too much.
