But as I prepare to exit 2021, I’m realizing that maybe my choice of the word “light” was really less about what I was going to do during the past year and more about what God was going to do for me through the light of others. In a year that was completely unexpected, I can finally see the faint glimmer of light at the end of the dark tunnel. It’s not fading; it’s growing.

After six months in a fog after a year of pandemic living as we look forward to something both exciting and new, we need a vacation that focuses on the moment and not necessarily on what is coming next. Last January I didn’t know that was what I was going to need.

When COVID Turns Your Life Upside Down
2021 is going to include a lot less airplane travel, time zone changes, extra-large suitcases, or language translation, but I think it will be quite an adventure nonetheless. And if it doesn’t include packing up a home over Facetime or leaving people we care about without so much as a goodbye, I’m ok with a little bit quieter year.

This is My 40
It has been said on sign and meme and poster time and time again: I may not know what the future holds but I know who holds the future. It’s a little cheesy but it’s also true. No matter what the future holds, I’m looking forward to the next decade. I choose to not see 40 as the start of the decline (despite what my knees occasionally tell me) but the continuation of a life that just gets better with age.
